Council of Mortgage Lenders says over 80% of adults want to own a home.
A new Council of Mortgage Lenders survey has revealed that 81% of British adults hope to own their own home within 10 years.
Most of the British adults who share with friends, live with family or rent privately are aged under 35 years old.
Almost 3 out of 4 individuals who responded to the Council of Mortgage Lenders survey indicated that they hoped to climb onto the housing ladder by 2014.
Actually how they plan to do this is unclear. For individuals surveyed under 35 years of age, their home-owning aspirations exceed the present number of under 35s who actually own their own house.
Of the individuals surveyed, 54% said that they wanted to purchase their own house sooner rather than later. However only 1 in 3 questioned who expressed a desire to reach that goal within the next couple of years are actually likely to do so.
Home-owning aspirations remain strong in the UK, however it has become increasingly difficult for the average British adult to achieve a mortgage to achieve their home-owning dream.
